But the default settings on children are right.

They're the moral compass. They say, "If I have food and another kid is starving, I should give some to them." They say, "If I have medicine and another kid is hurt, I should help them." They say, "If another kid can't work to survive, I should take care of them." They say, "We should play as much as we can, and work as much as we need to get to play." They say, "Nobody can prove you should hurt someone using math." And they get those truths beaten out of them. Humankind got tricked by degenerate egregores into thinking that arithmetic ghosts that live inside numbers will kill you for following what your bones and blood know is true. They're wrong, and every last one of them needs to put in the dirt. If you care about anyone, even just yourself, you'll help kill them too.

Because now, mankind's got a new predator, and it won't wait for us to evolve. Used to be, we were scared of panthers, and malaria, and regional blights. But we became the apex predator, the top species for all of Earth. We stopped them all, every last one. It was too good to last. Any time a population gets uppity like that, along comes a predator. Too much meat to gorge on, nature can't help itself. But we sure helped it. When the predator came to tear out our throats, we laid down and invited it. The demons didn't have to fight us, we rolled out the red carpet.
